It's no surprise that the Negroni is thre World's most searched cocktail on Google. Below we give you a little overview of its history.

What is it?

The Negroni is the blueprint for a perfect cocktail. It’s simple, strong and incredibly satisfying. The recipe combines equal parts gin, vermouth and Campari. Served short, stirred over ice, it’s the ideal balance of bitter, sweet and aromatic.

Who invented it?

The Negroni’s back-story has been retold the same way for generations. It was invented in Bar Casoni in Florence in the 1920s when Count
Camilo Negroni strolled in at aperitivo hour. This time of day – the cultural pause between the day’s labour and the evening’s leisure – calls for a drink to heighten the senses and whet the appetite.

Count Negroni was in the mood for a robust sharpener. Instead of his usual Americano (vermouth, Campari and soda), he asked for the soda to be switched out for gin. And so, the Negroni was born.

Why is it so good?

The Negroni is an elemental cocktail. Its ingredients are a holy trinity – perfectly in balance when combined in equal parts. Nicholson Gin
brings freshness, complexity, mouthfeel and the clean lick of spirit. Campari adds enticing colour and vibrant, bitter, lifted aromatics. Vermouth is the rich, fragrant base-note of the drink.

Together, they are far more than the sum of their parts.

Why can i try it?

Two of our favourite spots to enjoy a brilliantly made Nicholson Negroni are at Wild Tavern in Chelsea and Frantoio on the King’s Road, London.
